Elite Edge lacrosse tops in U.S. field

The Ontario-based Edge Elite Seniors knocked off all seven U.S. opponents they faced to claim the prestigious title. Four Halton Hills Bulldogs played key roles on an Ontario all-star team that won the Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions' field lacrosse tournament last weekend in Florida.
Seeded fifth in the 16-team High School Elite division, the Edge Elite squad went undefeated through seven games in the Tampa-based National Development Program tournament, finishing off with an 11-10 overtime victory over The Warriors of North Carolina.
Grade 12 Georgetown District High School students Paul Davison and Jake Harding, both 17, lined up at the midfield and attack positions.
Also on the Ontario team were Halton Hills Jr. B Bulldogs Dylan Webster, an attackman, and defender Patrick Miles, both from Brampton.
No statistics were available from tournament play, although Harding scored in the championship game with 1:50 remaining on a set-up by Webster to tie the score at 10 and force overtime.
It's the second time in four years that Edge Elite has won what is considered the U.S. national championship.
"I don't know what it is, but I think it's our style of play," said head coach Rick Webster.
"American teams just don't see our style that often."
Davison has been with Elite Edge for the past three years and Harding for two, and were members of the Halton Hills Bulldog midget side that captured the Canadian championship in 2008.
Local residents and Bulldogs Seth Laidlaw and Jamie Dowell played for the Edge Jr. Elites at the same event, finishing eighth in their division.
